WHCE Affiliation with girls inc. of Alameda County
Women Health Care Executives (WHCE) of Northern California, a professional association dedicated to the career advancement of women in health care, is proud to announce its affiliation with girls, inc. of Alameda County. girls inc is a national organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. girls inc. offers year-round academic enrichment and skill-building programs, as well as counseling services to girls and their families. These programs challenge girls to explore their potential, go to college, build fulfilling careers and expand their sense of what is possible.
Seventy-three percent of first-grade girls in girls inc.'s literacy program are reading at or above grade level, as compared to 11 percent at the beginning of the school year.
Ninety-two percent of participants in girls inc.'s teen leadership program intend to graduate from a four-year college.
The purpose of WHCE is to promote the advancement of women professionals in health care. To that end, WHCE is supporting girls inc initiatives by awarding a $2000 scholarship to a high school senior, to be used toward education expenses related to a career in health care.
Eureka! is a five-year program offered by Girls Incorporated of Alameda County with the goal of building girls' confidence and career options through achievement opportunities in health care and related fields. Girls Incorporated of Alameda County is now preparing for their 14th successful Eureka! Internship summer. Each summer they place an average of 45 Interns, ages 15 to 17 in 10th and 11th grades, at workplaces throughout the Bay Area to receive job skills training.
